As I stepped further away from the mob of colors and sounds that assaulted my eyes and ears, I stepped closer to the thing I’ve been waiting for all week. With each step anticipation gripped my stomach a little tighter and was not let go. I’m sure at some point, eventually, it’s grip started to loosen and disappear, but I was too encapsulated by the flashing lights to notice. The lights flashing from purple, to pink, to white, and back again. Flashing to the beat of the music. Flashing from one color to the next. Flashing in such a way that I was almost entranced, focusing on the lights. Just watching the colors switch in what seemed like an infinite loop. I sat there watching the lights until my nose caught the fleeting scent of strawberry. The puff of a young, irresponsible teenager’s strawberry flavored vape. The scent lingered, but was eventually taken away by the breeze. Disappearing into the crowd. The cold breeze swept across my skin, leaving me with goosebumps and shivers. The coldness of the chair breaking through my shirt, reaching the skin beneath it. Spreading the cold further through my body. In an attempt to forget the chilly weather, I focused myself on the beat of the song. On the deep, booming bass escaping from the speakers and spilling into the crowd. For a few moments I felt like I became a part of the music. The bass was vibrating me, along with the speakers. I could feel it vibrating my heart. Vibrating my lungs. Vibrating my stomach. I could feel the beat. Then suddenly… silence. Nothing but silence. The song was over. The show was done. I could no longer feel the beat vibrating through my body, pulling me in and making me a part of the song. The irresponsible teenagers had left, taking their fruity smelling vapes along with them. A harsh and ominous black had settled over the stage, where there once was the most colorful, entrancing lights. It was over. The show had ended, leaving me sitting in my cold, plastic chair. Leaving me with nothing but a fond memory.
